On loan Manchester City midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali will likely make his senior debut for Nigeria from an unusual position as a right back as coach Gernot Rohr continue his search for more full backs.
This season Nwakali has played mainly from the midfield for his loan side Sogndal, but according to sources close to coach Rohr, the selling point which convinced Rohr was his ability to play as a right back.
Last season he was impressive playing from the role even though it wasn’t his primary role, and Rohr will be hoping he put up something similar to his strong showing If he gets to play against Algeria and Argentina in Nigeria’s upcoming games.
” Nwakali will add options to the team in more area than just in the midfield. He can play as a right back and as a matter of fact that was the edge that earned him a call up to the Super Eagles”, a source close to the coach told Owngoalnigeria.com.
“There’s the need to get a quality back up for Shehu Abdullahi, who is the first choice right back and Nwakali is next in line to be tried out as Rohr feels he needs more options at right back”, he concluded.
