On loan Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham says he is fully committed to representing England at senior level despite the fact that he will still be eligible to represent Nigeria, even if he plays for England in their upcoming friendly games.
Abraham is in line for his senior national team debut for England when they play against Brazil and Germany later this month, ahead of the game the striker revealed playing for Nigeria ahead of England was never an option for him.
He revealed he has always wanted to play for England, and he has high hopes of working his way into the team especially if he maintains his current form for his Premier League side Swansea City.
“I think (Nigeria) tried to (roll out the red carpet), but, like I said, the main focus was here so there was no way of trying to do that for me, really.” he said at yesterday’s pre match conference.
“ I think I was pretty set on England, really. I see myself as being a long-term England player. That is where my main focus is and now that I am here, I am 100 per cent focused here and trying to get into that team as much as I can, really, so my main focus would be here and nowhere else for now.”
“Playing in the Premier League, it would be nice obviously to make it into the England team as well. My main focus was here and nowhere else.
“Of course (it was flattering), but for me my main focus was here. But it is obviously nice to know that I was doing something right and going in the right direction”.
