Super Eagles forward Moses Simon and Taiwo Awoniyi were up against each other when Gent defeated Mouscron 3-1 in a Belgium league game decided earlier today.
Simon drew first blood when he opened scoring for his team via the spot in the 29th minute, but Awoniyi levelled matters for his team four minutes later to bring scores to 1-1.
Awoniyi’s goal only helped Mouscron stay level for six minutes before Yaya Kubo restored Gent’s lead which was later extended by Dylan Bronn with 16 minutes left to play.
Despite Mouscron losing the tie, this season has been very kind to Awoniyi who now has five goals for the team he joined in the summer from Liverpool on a season long loan deal.
Simon on his part has now found the back of the net 5 times from just 12 games so far this season, no thanks to the injury which ruled him out of the club commitment for two weeks.
