Newly appointed scout of the senior national team of Nigeria Victor Agali has revealed the plans Franco-German coach Gernot Rohr has for Nigerian football.
Agali who recently returned from Germany where he went on a scouting mission with the coach spoke in Lagos upon his arrival, and said Rohr’s plan for Nigerian football extends beyond the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He said the coach is particularly keen on luring some players eligible for Nigeria who were born in other countries as they have potential to become great players in the future.
Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma has been openly identified by Rohr as one of the players he is keen on, and according to Agali Nigerians should commend Rohr for trying to wrestle the 22 year old from Germany, where he has represented their youth teams at various youth levels.
“ Everybody must understand that Gernot Rohr means well for our football. You need to know what he has put in into visiting young and promising footballers of Nigerian descent who have shown potential of greatness in the nearest future.
” I think it is a commendable effort from the coach. If these players join up with the collection of players we have at home, it will rub on the quality of our game and players too,”.
