The form of Torino midfielder Joel Obi is giving the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr a lot of reasons to be happy as the Super Eagles step up their preparations for the World Cup.
Already Obi has been pencilled down for a return to the team when they regroup next year for two friendly games in March, thanks to his new found form at Torino.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Obi has added goals to his games as he already has two goals to his name from just seven games this season despite playing as a deep lying midfielder.
Last weekend he was rated the man of the match as his side battled to a 1-1 draw against AC Milan, and Rohr is excited about working with him next year when the team play their friendly games.
” Joel Obi is not new to Rohr. I think even before he was appointed coach of the Super Eagles. Injuries have not been kind to him but he has found his feet at Torino, beside he is 26 now so he is in his best form”, a source close to the coach revealed.
” The midfield is one area Rohr is looking for options and just like every national team coach he is excited for Joel Obi , and hopes to work with him next year when the team play their first set of friendly games ahead of the World Cup “.
