Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho proved his mettle in front of goal for Leicester City in their FA Cup replay against Fleetwood Town by scoring a brace to power them to the next round of the FA Cup.
The Nigerian was quick to a through ball from Islam Slimani in the 43rd minutes, and with the goalkeeper at his mercy he planted his finish into the net with the calmness he is known for in front of goal.
He later thought he has gotten his brace when he put the ball at the back of the net in the second half, but the goal was disallowed after the referee confirmed using the Video Assistant Referee ( VAR) that the ball has crossed the line before Demarai Gray pulled the ball back for Iheanacho to slot home.
However, there was no denying the former Manchester City forward in the 77th minute when he ran behind the Fleetwood defence and lobbed the goalkeeper, after Riyad Mahrez has put him through.
The goal was however subjected to some debate after it was initially ruled out for offside, the referee had to once again use the VAR to confirm if the Nigerian was off side or not, before it was finally awarded.
It means he becomes the first player to have a goal awarded to him since VAR was introduced in England this season. The goal was also his second goal of the season for the Foxes.
