Nigeria will no doubt begin the process of trying to lure Southampton 17 year old forward Michael Obafemi from Ireland after the forward made his Premier League debut for The Saints in their 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
Obafemi was introduced in place of Manolo Gabbiadini by Spurs boss Mauricio Pelligrino nine minutes before the end of the game, and the forward who scored a hattrick for the U18s of the club in December almost scored the winner.
He used his pace to get behind the defence of Spurs , but his touch wasn’t sufficient enough to divert the well delivered cross from Dusan Tadic on target with goalkeeper of Spurs Hugo Lloris beaten by the cross.
Obafemi has played at Under-17 level for Ireland but he still remain eligible for Nigeria at senior level , and with the current drive by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr to lure players of Nigerian descent born abroad , his name could be added to the list.
Obafemi is a striker of real quality with blistering pace and a real eye for goal as evident in the manner he scored his hattrick for the U18 in the FA Youth Cup game against their counterparts from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Congratulations to 17-year-old #SaintsFC forward Michael Obafemi, who makes the bench today!
