Why Super Eagles Star Etebo Was Suspended By Portuguese FA

FUTEBOL - Etebo. Jogo Feirense - Pacos de Ferreira, a contar para a 3 jornada da Liga NOS, realizado no Estadio Marcolino de Castro em Santa Maria da Feira. Segunda, 21 de Agosto de 2017. (EPOCA 2017/2018) (Vitor Garcez)

Oghenekaro Etebo was conspicuously missing from the squad of Portuguese side CD Feirense in their 1-0 win over Moreirense in a Primeira Liga game played earlier today.

Etebo who is currently the leading scorer for the team with four goals wasn’t listed in the matchday squad by coach Nuno Manta Santos due to a ban placed on the Nigerian by the Portuguese FA.

22 year old Etebo has picked up five bookings in the 18 games he has played so far, the last of which came last weekend when they slumped to a 1-3 loss to Tondela.

Five bookings automatically triggers a one match suspension, hence the reason behind his omission from the matchday squad of Feirense, who had Joao Silva to thank as his goal in the third minutes gave them all three points.

Although the form of Etebo has gone down a bit as opposed to the start of the season, where he was by far the best player for the modest Portuguese side, a form which lead to interest in his services from league giants FC Porto.

However Etebo is widely expected to depart Feirense in the summer, where hopefully he will increase his market value if he makes the Nigerian team to the World Cup in Russia.
