Forgotten Nigeria international Joel Obi is making a good case to be recalled back to the senior national team of Nigeria after netting his 4th goal of the season in Torino’s 3-0 win over Benevento.
Obi netted on the stroke of half-time and lasted 70 minutes before he was substituted for Cristian Ansaldi. So far he has made 13 appearances in the Serie A for Torino.
Known for his ability to keep his team ticking with neat and incisive play in the midfield, the defensive midfielder has added goals to his game this season at Torino.
He has scored in both league ties against Sassuolo aside finding the back of the net against Cagliari and now he has added Benevento to the list of teams he has scored against.
The 26 year old also has three assists this season, and this season is slowly shaping up to be the first season which he has been fit for a very long time the past three years.
Injuries blighted his career at Inter-Milan where he had his breakthrough eight years ago but since moving to Torino two seasons ago, he has slowly worked his way to long term fitness.
Already he is in line for a recall to the senior national team of Nigeria, and his recent positive run in front of goal will no doubt increase his chances of teaming up with the team when they regroup later in the year.
