Fortuna Dusseldorf German-Nigerian Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye In Rohr’s World Cup Plans

The goalkeepers crisis rocking the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of their campaign at the World Cup has opened up a big opportunity for Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to make the squad.

Coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr spoke about the goalkeeper after his visit to Germany, and suggested that the shot stopper could be an option in his team ahead of the World Cup.

Okoye’s impressive form for the B team of the second divison German side has already earned him a spot in the ‎first team, although he is yet to make his debut for the team.

Rohr has however seen enough to convince him that he will be a top goalkeeper for Nigeria in the future, and already he has sent the foreign goalkeeper trainer Enrico Pionetti to monitor his progress.

Just like Deportivo La Coruna B team goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho, Rohr have asked Pionetti to drill the 19 year old in Germany ahead of a possible call up to the national team of Nigeria.

However he will most likely miss out on a spot in the team for the games against Poland and later Serbia, but there are indications that he will no doubt get a chance to train with the team before the World Cup in Russia.

Unconfirmed reports has it that he will most likely be in the provisional squad of Nigeria for the World Cup. A sign of how highly rated he is by coach Rohr despite the fact that he is yet to make his first team bow for Fortuna Dusseldorf.
