Taiwo Awoniyi fine run of form in front of goal came to an end in a shameful manner as he was dismissed as Mouscron slip to a 2-3 loss to Lokeren in a First Division A game in Belgium.
He was made to take the walk of shame in the 75th minute of the game, four minutes after Lokeren went 2-1 up in the game that saw five other bookings, with two going to the team of the Nigerian.
The red card shown to the Nigerian was rather harsh and drew protest from his teammates as the offence was just a nudge on an advancing Lokeren player, which ordinarily shouldn’t have lead to a red card.
Mouscron are expected to lodge an appeal against his sending off, and if they fail to get the decision overturned, Awoniyi would miss the next three games of the club.
So far Awoniyi has been very impressive for the struggling Belgium side with seven league goals to his name. Thereby making it his most productive season since he turned professional three seasons ago.
