Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho will start in goal for Nigeria in tonight’s friendly game against Poland. A move which even the goalkeeper might not have expected.
Uzoho who has kept in two LaLiga games for Deportivo La Coruna but now turns out for the B team made his debut for Nigeria in the 4-2 friendly win over Argentina last year, where he started the tie as third choice goalkeeper.
This time around he is set to start despite the presence of first choice goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa. A move which looked like a reward for the 19 year old for his early arrival to camp as well as his encouraging performance against Argentina.
Ezenwa arrived camp on Wednesday, but before then Uzoho who trained with the Super Eagles goalkepper trainer in Spain has already made an impression on the coaches during drills for the game.
The absence of Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi due to visa issues also played a role in the decision by Rohr to start Uzoho, but above all Rohr believes Uzoho will be a top goalkeeper in the future, but part of his grooming process is today’s game.
