Super Eagles Coach Rohr Explains Why He Snubbed FC Midtjylland Striker Paul Onuachu

A reason behind the omission of FC Midtjylland red hot striker Paul Onuachu has been provided by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.

Onuachu was among the top marksman in Denmark last season with 18 league goals to his name, and he started this season in similar fashion by scoring 9 goals in ‎17 games. A form which led to calls about an invitation to the Nigerian national team.

As first reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, Rohr noticed‎ the abilities of the 23 year old last season and asked his scouts to monitor him closely, and according to the coach the striker was set to be called up before he later changed his mind.

In an interview with Sportinglife newspaper, Rohr said he omitted the over six feet tall‎ striker because he discovered that he has not been playing for his Danish side this season, which could most likely means he is having fitness issues.

Rohr explained that the last time the forward kicked a ball in anger was over a month ago, on the 9th of February precisely, and that made him exclude him from the list of players who prosecuted the friendly games against Poland and Serbia respectively.

The Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles rounded up by saying he is still open to inviting new players to his team provided they can compete with the players he presently has in his team.
