Head coach of Plateau United Kennedy Boboye who guided his team to the league title in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season has sensationally turned down the chance to work as one of the assistant coaches of the Nigeria U23 team.
Boboye was announced by the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) as one of the assistants to head coach of the Nigeria Olympic team Salisu Yusuf. However the coach who also played for Nigeria at same level during his playing days has rejected the appointment.
Owngoalnigeria.com exclusively gathered that Boboye refused the offer to work as assistant insisting on his initial job application to work as the main coach as opposed to the role he was given when the coaches of the team was announced in February by the NFF.
He was named alongside Imama Amapakabo, Fidelis Ilechukwu with Alloy Agu named as the goalkeeper’s trainer for the technical crew which will be headed by Salisu Yusuf, who also doubles as the first assistant to coach Gernot Rohr of the senior national team of Nigeria.
” Boboye has turned down the job offered him by the NFF. He isn’t interested in working as an assistant, a decision he has communicated to the NFF few weeks after he was announced as one of the coaches of the U23s”, Owngoalnigeria.com gathered from a source close to the coach.
” He ( Boboye) is grateful to the NFF over his appointment but unfortunately he will only take up the job if he is made the head coach and not assistant. As a matter of fact he applied for the post of head coach”.
