Former left full back of Chelsea and the Super Eagles of Nigeria Celestine Babayaro has backed the inclusion of Elderson Echiejile in the Super Eagles provisional list for the World Cup.
Echiejile is largely viewed by many as one of the weak spot of the Super Eagles but the left back has continue to win favour in the eyes of various coaches of the Nigeria national team.
The emergence of Brian Idowu and Ola Aina further increased calls for him to be dropped but coach Gernot Rohr has once again shown faith by naming him in his 35 man provisional list for the World Cup.
” He may not be having the best of time at his club but he is fit and highly experienced. You can’t buy that, you’ve to earn it and he has done well for himself. In a young squad like ours, you need a player like Echiejile “, Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” My only problem with the team is that they appear to be no real competition for spots. Most of the players know that they are going to be in the final squad. It doesn’t bode well all the time”, Babayaro concluded.
