A member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) says the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr wanted to name his final squad for the World Cup two days back.
The coach ended up releasing a list of 30 players in his provisional squad for the World Cup from where 23 players will be picked to represent Nigeria at the World Cup proper starting in June.
FIFA allow teams to name 35 players in their provisional list but coach of the Nigerian team Rohr released a list of just 30 players and according to a member of the Technical Committee, his initial plans was to release his final 23 man list for the World Cup.
In an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com, the influential committee member said the coach was persuaded to make it 30 players against his initial plans of naming 23 players with three on standby.
He also said the coach went against the advice of the NFF to name 35 players so that some foreign players on the list will prosecute the friendly game against Spanish LaLiga side Atletico Madrid alongside some home based players.
Rohr refused and instead named 30 players from which according to the Technical Committee member he already has at least 20 of the 23 players he will be taking to the World Cup in his mind.
