The battle for who will be in goal for Nigeria when the World Cup gets underway in June has started in earnest following the resumption of training for the tournament in Russia.
Today two of the highly favoured goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi were impressive during the shooting exercise as they saved more efforts than the duo of Dele Ajiboye and Francis Odinaka Uzoho.
Ezenwa and Akpeyi are the two senior goalkeepers in the team and they showed it during the drills with top reflexes although the duo of Ajiboye and Uzoho didn’t do badly as well according to Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent who watched the session.
Coach Gernot Rohr who watched on alongside goalkeeper trainer Enrico Pionetti would have been impressed by their displays as they gear up for the friendly game against Congo DR in Port Hacourt.
For now it looks like the battle for first choice goalkeeper is going to be between Akpeyi and Ezenwa but Uzoho might likely snatch the third goalkeeper spot ahead of Ajiboye in Nigeria’s final 23 man list for the World Cup.
