Former Akwa United forward Ubong Ekpai who scored the lone goal for Nigeria U23s in a shock 1-0 win over Rio 2016 Olympic host Brazil in a friendly game prior to the Olympics has joined Czech giants Viktoria Plzen.
22 year old Ekpai took the league in Czech Republic by storm this season following his permanent transfer to FC Zlin from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in the summer of 2017.
In 20 games this season he has found the back of the net seven times with three assists to his name and his performances earned him several team of the week nomination in Czech Republic.
Ekpai who spent last season on loan to fellow Czech Republic side Slovan Liberec signed a three year deal with the option of another with Viktoria Plzen who are perennial campaigners in the UEFA Champions League.
A fee in the region of €350,000 was reportedly paid as transfer fee for his signing while he will earn twice as much as he was earning at his previous club with other bonuses tripling his wages at his new club, especially if they progress in the UEFA Champions League.
