The battle for the left back spot of the Super Eagles is far from over as coach Gernot Rohr failed to confirm Amkar Perm defender Bryan Idowu as his first choice ahead of Elderson Echiejile.
Idowu started and completed the game against England on Saturday, the third game which he has started ahead of Echiejile who was first choice all through the qualifying series for the World Cup.
The non inclusion of Ola Aina in the final 23 man squad of the Super Eagles narrowed the battle to just the duo and from all indication Idowu is clearly ahead but Rohr refused to acknowledge his stand as first choice.
While admitting that Idowu did well in the second half against England after he was moved further up the pitch to operate as a wing back following the switc to 3-5-2 formation in the second half, the Franco-German coach also pointed out Echiejile’s availability to play in same role.
“Idowu did well especially in second half (vs England), he’s fit, he’s quick. But we have also Elderson Echiejile,” he said.
