Eagles Training – Simy, Kelechi Iheanacho Begin Audition To Claim Ighalo’s Spot In Style

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were back in training this morning less than 24 hours after their 0-1 loss against Czech Republic yesterday in a friendly game as part of their preparations for the World Cup.

Players who were heavily involved in yesterday’s game had a recovery session while the rest of the squad were involved in full training under the supervision of coach Gernot Rohr.

Owngoalnigeria.com checks at the training revealed that Oghenekaro Etebo led the list of players who impressed during the session but Rohr had his eyes on the attacking duo of Simy Nwankwo and Kelechi Iheanacho.

The coach is considering dropping top striker Odion Ighalo as he has failed to show his true abilities in the last friendly games the team has played and it could open the door for the aforementioned duo to replace him as the arrow head of Eagles attack.

Iheanacho who was a second half substitute in yesterday’s game played in his preferred role behind the striker and his sharpness was telling as he scored and also created another during the course of the session.

Simy as Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo is fondly known and called was also his usual self with his lanky frame coupled with his skills in close areas causing panic among defenders who were up against him.

Like Iheanacho he was also prolific during the session as Rohr stepped up preparations for the World Cup by trying out formations and correcting the errors noticed in yesterday’s 0-1 loss to Czech Republic.
