An agreement has been reached between the representatives of Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi and that of Belgium side Gent for the forward to spend next season on loan at the club, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Both teams are presently thrashing out the financial details of the move with Liverpool keen on allowing the forward spend another season to continue his growth.
Awoniyi scored ten goals for modest Belgium side Mouscron, a tally which placed him among Liverpool top goal scorers for last season and also earned him the award of the club’s best loanee.
Anderlecht, Club Brugge, PAOK of Greece and others teams in Europe made approach for his services but the 20 year old wants a stay in Belgium and Gent appears to be his favoured destination.
At Gent he will be reunited with the Nigerian contingent at the club although the likes of Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu are certain to leave the club this summer. Their likely departure notwithstanding the club still boast of Nigerian midfield power house Anderson Esiti and Peter Olayinka who is due back at the club after shining on loan for Zulte-Waregem last season.
