Iceland started their campaign on a sound note with a 1-1 draw against one of the tournament favourite Argentina and while Nigeria lost 0-2 to Croatia in their opening game on Saturday.

“It’s a whole another opponent, that has a different playing style. They have a powerful and a strong team with players that can cover a lot of distance. It’s a really organised team, which the coach of Nigeria, [Gernot] Rohr, deserves credit for”, the coach said shortly after their training earlier today.

He also said pressure is on Nigeria to win following their opening day loss while admitting that his team are better placed heading into the game by virtue of the result of their first game against Argentina.

It took a lot of energy to get this point, but it was worth it. To have one point today is very important. Now, we go to a game that Nigeria preferably needs to win. I think we are, well, at least in a better situation today than they are”.
