Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has hailed the decision to award a penalty to Croatia in their 0-2 win over Nigeria on Saturday as a perfect call.
Croatia were awarded a penalty when Mario Mandzukic was dragged down in the Nigerian box by Ekong leaving the referee with no choice but to award a spot kick which was converted by Luka Modric to seal the win for Croatia.
Speaking on the decision to award the spot kick to Croatia, Roy Keane who was in the studio during the game praised the decision as the right one and berated Ekong for trying to cheat in his bid to stop Mandzukic.
He also criticised the Nigerian team for their poor formation in the game and said he expects Croatia to step up their performance when they play against Argentina. A team stronger than Nigeria according to the former captain of the national team of Ireland.
”Croatia have to up their game against a stronger side like Argentina. I’m glad Troost-Ekong got punished. Cheating, lazy defending”, Keane said after the game.
