Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria John Obi Mikel says the players are to be blamed for their inability to defend properly in set piece situation and not the coaches.
Mikel made this known in a rare chat with Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent in Russia after yesterday’s training session with the captain insisting that the coaches did their best with drills on defending during training.
Nigeria lost 0-2 to Croatia in their opening game with both goals coming from their inability to deal with situation arising from set piece. A problem which Mikel insist has to be sorted out by the players.
” Our coaches took time to drill us on how to defend in set piece situation, as players we have to look at ourselves and take the blame because the coaches did their best”, Mikel said.
” A lot of talking among ourselves will help us sort it out. We let the coaches down by not doing what we were taught severally in training before the start of the World Cup and even before the game. It’s our problem “, he concluded.
