Nigeria are underdogs heading into their second Russia World Cup 2018 game against Iceland later today according to coach of the team Gernot Rohr at yesterday’s press conference.
Rohr said bar the FIFA Rankings which has his team as the lowest ranked in group D, his squad has no particular star player unlike other teams who are in the same group with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The coach however mentioned captain of the team John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses as star players but insist that the youthfulness in the squad is another factor that will see them approach today’s game as underdogs.
Although he insist that his team won’t lose today’s game, the coach was however quick to point out that he is preparing a team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar even if they progress from their group.
‘Why we don’t have star players? It’s because we are the youngest team of the World Cup,’ Rohr told reporters at a press conference ahead of the match.
‘We have Obi Mikel, who is a very good player, you can tell that he is a star, we have Victor Moses who is well known everywhere but we have so many young players, they will be stars, I hope so.
‘What we have is a team for 2022, because when you are so young, with the goalkeeper and all the other people, they will be better and better”.
