Argentina football legend Diego Maradona has been taken to hospital following Argentina dramatic 2-1 win over Nigeria at the Russia 2018 World Cup, which sealed their spot in the round of 16.
Maradona celebrated Marcos Rojo’s winning goal for Argentina wildly and was caught on camera brandishing his middle finger at supporters while celebrating the strike from Rojo.
He could barely walk after the final whistle as stewards were seen helping him away from his seat before collapsing to the ground. He was immediately transported to a local hospital after getting First Aid treatment from the Russian paramedics.
Sources in Argentina revealed his body couldn’t carry the weight of the tension soaked encounter which Nigeria could easily have won, If top striker Odion Ighalo converted two clear cut chances to put the game to bed before Argentina levelled up.
A contentious decision not to award a penalty to Nigeria after referee Cuneyt Cakir reviewed a handball incident by Rojo in the box using the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) also played a role in the defeat suffered by Nigeria as they could have gone 2-1 up.
