Six players have been carefully selected by the technical crew of the Nigeria U17 team led by coach Manu Garba for the mandatory Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan meant to curb the excesses of age cheats.
The sixty players were picked from the month long screening of the team conducted by the technical crew and already they have been playing friendly games in Abuja in preparations for upcoming competitive games.
Owngoalnigeria.com gathered from the technical crew that the reason behind the high number in the players picked is to forestall a reoccurrence of what happened last time out, when limited number were selected for the scan.
From the players selected to go for the MRI Scan last time out, eight players from the starting line up failed the test and it forced the coaches to rely on players outside their pool, which eventually claim their hope of qualifying for last the African Youth Championship.
This time around the qualifiers will be played in a competition format based on the various regions of Africa that constituted the member nations of the region’s football governing body CAF.
Nigeria will campaign in the West African region for the ticket to qualify for the African showpiece which will serve as qualifiers for the main World Youth Championship next year.
