Former Plateau United forward Philip Azango scored his second Europa League goal to power Slovakian side AS Trencin ‎past Polish side Gornik Zabrze 4-1, which secure them qualification to the next phase of the qualifiers.

Azango scored the winner in the first leg played in Poland last week and with scores at 2-0, the left footed forward killed off any chance of a late rally by the visitors with a third goal for Trencin in the 59th minute.

The win see Trencin progress on a 5-1 aggregate score and they are now one round away from qualifying for the group stages of Europe’s second rated Cup Championship. A feat which will no doubt be a major achievement for the modest side.

Three Nigerians in Philip Azango, Rueben Yem and Abdul Zubairu were on for Trencin from the start with Azango substituted to a standing ovation with four minutes left to play in the game. The fourth Nigerian in the squad for the game Emeka Umeh was introduced late into time added on.
