Elderson Echiejile Signs Contract Extension With French Ligue 1 Side Monaco

Monaco has offered fresh terms to 30 year old Nigeria International defender Elderson Echiejile to keep him at the club for a further year with the option of another year, Owngoalnigeria.com understands.

The 30 year old has been at Monaco since 2013 but he hasn’t kicked a ball in anger for the club in the last two seasons as he has been farmed out on loan after falling down the pecking order.

However he is still viewed as an experience player at the club as they are presently filled with promising talents, who might need his guidance and support judging by his experience.

Since moving to Europe in 2007 he has represented French Ligue 1 side Rennes, Portuguese side Sporting Braga before moving to Monaco, where he has also had loan stints with Standard Liege, Sporting Gijon, Sivasspor and Cercle Brugge in Belgium.

Reports says the club offered him the extension to help them recoup their investment on him rather than allow him leave for free following the expiration of his deal at the club last month.
