Bordeaux latest acquisition Samuel Kalu has thanked the nursery team that discovered and nurtured him ‎in Nigeria after completing a €8m move to French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

The 20 year old joined Bordeaux from Gent, where he spent one and half seasons following his move from Slovakian side AS Trencin in January 2017 for a fee less than a million euros.

However before moving to Europe at the age of 17, the forward honed his skills at the famous Golden Boot Soccer Academy (GBS) ‎owned by coach Ahmed Ibrahim popularly called ‘ Coach Bros’.

” It all started from GBS. I learnt a lot working with coach Bros. I remain eternally grateful to the coach for without him and God almighty, maybe this wouldn’t have been possible “, the forward revealed.

Meanwhile coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has suggested that he will get a chance with the Nigerian team and also admitted that he is aware of his abilities way before his move to the Ligue 1 side but left him out of his plans due to Levante new signing Moses Simon, who was incidentally at same club with Kalu back then.

“I never selected him. I saw him play, but in his team. I took another, which is Simon Moses. He is in my group since the beginning, two years ago. He is also a winger, fast. He’s almost the same, but I found him better than Kalu,” Rohr told Girondins4ever .

“We have many fast wingers in Nigeria. Before there is a plethora of quality attackers. This boy [Samuel Kalu] could not join our selection. But now, maybe he’s going to cross a course. We’ll follow him.

“Simon Moses was in my group. He was injured, he is the only injured player I had before the World Cup. He missed the World Cup because of a muscle injury. He was replaced by another player, a centre forward.”
