Super Eagles World Cup 2018 defender William Troost-Ekong opened his goal account for Turkish side Bursaspor but ended up on the losing side as they fell 1-2 to league giants Fenerbahce.
Ekong powered in a diving header off a corner kick and even though it came off a player of Fenerbahce before resting in the net, the Nigerian was credited with the goal.
His goal was cancelled by a penalty from Giuliano before Souza put the home side ahead 30 minutes in the game. A scoreline that ended as the final score despite over four minutes of time added on after regulation time.
Last season Ekong scored twice in 27 games for Bursaspor in his first season at the club following his move from Belgium side Gent, where he was deemed surplus to requirements after failing to nail a spot in the starting line up.
24 year old Ekong played all of Nigeria’s group games at the World Cup 2018 in Russia maintaining his central defence partnership with Leon Balogun which many Nigerians love to call the ‘Oyibo Wall’.
