The shock retirement of Victor Moses from the senior national team of Nigeria sent shock down the spines of fans of the Nigerian team as he been a major force in the team since the appointment of coach Gernot Rohr.
It immediately sparked talks about potential replacements for the Chelsea ace who can function as a right wing-back and also as a winger from either flanks.
Samuel Kalu was mentioned but the Bordeaux man was quick to play down the comparison in an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com . However coach Rohr has hinted that Kalu is his ideal replacement for Victor Moses.
”We saw some of them (new players) today, Kalu performed well, he won the penalty, he is very quick, very explosive and we had to find somebody on the right side to replace Victor Moses and he is the man who can do that,” Rohr told Brila Fm in an interview monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com.
”I saw him at Bordeaux and he did very well, and on the other side we still have Ahmed and we have our wingers who can be very dangerous. I am happy also that Ighalo could score today.”
Kalu will once again be in the thick of things when Nigeria play Liberia later this evening in a friendly game in honour of the newly elected president of Liberia George Opong Weah.
