Nigeria defeated fellow West African nation Liberia 2-1 in a game meant to honour the recently elected president of Liberia George Opong Weah, who took part in the game for 79 minutes.
Owngoalnigeria.com brings to you the five players who were outstanding during the game which saw Nigeria make as many as seven substitutions that rendered the tie null and void in terms of helping the ranking of both teams by FIFA.
Henry Onyekuru – Scored the first goal for Nigeria and played like a player who has a point to prove. The fact that he played with such commitment will no doubt brighten his chance of getting a look in for competitive games.
John Ogu – Played as a central defender and not in his preferred midfield role. Playing against a 51 year old forward in the person of the president of Liberia George Weah helped his rating but his movement on and off the ball was spot on throughout the game.
Jamilu Collins – Came close to scoring but scoffed his effort wide. Linked up well with Onyekuru with his overlapping runs from deep the main feature of his game. Confident and assured in possession.
Semi Ajayi – Won almost everything in the air convincingly and also proved to be an outlet to help the team build from the rear. Still need to work on the timing of his tackles.
Wilfred Ndidi – Played with a lot of caution but still covered more grounds that any other play for both teams until he was substituted. His performance didn’t come as a surprise though.
