Liverpool Loanee Taiwo Awoniyi End Goal Drought For Gent In Style With Brace In Cup Win

On loan Liverpool Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi ended a six game barren run in front of goal for Gent with a brace in their 4-2 cup win over Excelsior Virton ‎in the Beker Van Belgie.

Awoniyi wasted no time in giving his team an early lead but Virton went into the break level at 1-1, a lead which Gent regained three minutes after the half hour mark but soon lost it again in the 78th minute.

Six minutes before the end of the game, Awoniyi whose last goal for the club came on the 16th of August against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok in the qualifiers of the Europa League struck again to restore his team lead.

The game was finally put to bed when Gent scored their 4th goal of the encounter to seal a 4-2 win with Awoniyi showing the signs he displayed last season for Mouscron in same Belgium where he scored ten goals in the league in his one year loan with the club.
