Paderborn left full back Jamilu Collins is in line for his first competitive start for the senior national team of Nigeria, coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr has hinted.
Injury stopped the Paderborn left full back from making his competitive bow against Seychelles during the last round of qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He however played in the novelty game against Liberia.
The chance to prove himself has been offered to him by Rohr, who explained why the 24 year old will be a solid addition to his team by explaining his qualities and the game he spotted the former HNK Rijeka youth prospect.
“Collins is interesting for us. He has the qualities to play very well for us. Perhaps he will start the game”, Rohr said at the pre match conference ahead of the Saturday game.
“It is not just because he has a good left foot. He has a good physique, he’s quick, he can go forward and he is defensively strong. I saw him play for Paderborn when they beat Cologne 5-3 and he did very well.
“Two, three years ago, Paderborn were in the Bundesliga and they now want to come back (to the top flight). They have a really strong team.
“What I also saw from him before the Seychelles game was good, but he had a little injury, he wasn’t 100% to start the game”, the coach concluded.
