Rotherham of England ace Semi Ajayi has displaced FC Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem as one of the back up centre backs to the preferred duo of Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

During their final training session Ajayi who has this season played and excelled as a defensive midfielder as well as a centre defender in the English Championship was deployed as a centre back.

Ajayi paired Kenneth Omeruo in central defence for Team B while Awaziem operated from the defensive midfield role pairing John Ogu in midfield in a 4-2-4 formation during the session supervised by coach Gernot Rohr.

Awaziem is not entirely new to playing as a defensive midfielder as that was the role he played in the test tournament where he was spotted by FC Porto before he was converted to a centre defender.

In the Super Eagles last competitive game against Seychelles, he filled in at right back in the absence of the preferred trio of Shehu Abdullahi, Ola Aina and Tyronne Ebuehi.
