The coach of the national team of South Africa Staurt Baxter has already started plotting his strategy ahead of their clash with Nigeria later this month in their penultimate fixture in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers.
South Africa lost top spot in the group to Nigeria after playing a 0-0 draw away to Seychelles on a matchday where Nigeria defeated Libya 3-2 away from home to move to nine points, one more than South Africa.
Both nations will clash in the next round of qualifiers with Nigeria aiming to avenge the 0-2 loss suffered at home against South Africa in their first qualifiers, while their host will be looking for a win to return back to top spot.
Baxter has mapped out his strategy for the game and part of it involves putting Nigeria under pressure to get an early penalty during the course of the game, and the coach who is the only Bafana Bafana coach to have defeated Nigeria in a competitive game is also banking on history to beat Nigeria.
“The referee can give us a penalty in the first minute. Being confident means I trust the players I have worked with. I know they have the desire to qualify. They know that Nigeria are a top class team and will also be desirous to get results”, Baxter said in an interview monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com.
