Two wrong offside calls was the saving grace for South Africa as they force Nigeria into a 1-1 draw in their penultimate AFCON 2019 Qualifiers, which sealed Nigeria’s passage to the tournament.
Ahmed Musa was wrongly flagged offside in the early exchanges just when he was through on goal but minutes later, the Super Eagles deservedly took the lead via an own goal after a Samuel Kalu cross was turned into his own net.
South Africa levelled later on when Percy Tau went through the defence of Nigeria before laying a pass which helped his team draw level and it remained so as both teams head into the dressing room for the half time break.
Nigeria were once again denied a clear chance to win the game when another wrong offside call against Musa who finished brilliantly but the offside flag cut short his celebration and denied Nigeria the chance to avenge the 0-2 loss they suffered against South Africa in Uyo.
