Semi Ajayi To Pair Ekong In Central Defence Against Uganda ,Idowu Gets New Role, Rohr Rest Iwobi & Five Others

Six players from the squad that played for Nigeria against South Africa in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers 1-1 draw ‎won’t be in the starting line up for tomorrow’s friendly game against Uganda, coach Gernot Rohr has confirmed.

Rohr made this known in an interview ahead of the game which will serve as the first preparatory game for both countries ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations next year with both countries already through.

“We have two goalkeepers who didn’t play against South Africa, we’ll make about six changes because we want to see everyone,” the coach said in Asaba.

Alex Iwobi tops the list of players to be rested for the game with the absence of Leon Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo opening the door for Rotherham defender Semi Ajayi to pair William Troost-Ekong in central defence.

Brian Idowu appears to have lost out in his quest to wrestle the left back slot from Jamilu Collins as he has now been drafted to play as right full back after injury ruled Ola Aina out of the game.
