Super Eagles wing forward Samuel Kalu has escaped a fine from his club Bordeaux of France after turning up late from international duty with the senior national team of Nigeria.
Kalu represented Nigeria in two games during the international break where Nigeria played South Africa in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers and also Uganda in a friendly game.
The forward was expected to resume training on Thursday but he was missing and reports in France also said he failed to pick up his calls when the club tried to contact him to know his reason for not turning up for training.
He was reported to be on the verge of getting fined and possibly demoted to the reserves for his actions but latest reports monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com has it that he has been left off the hook with the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr pleading on his behalf.
20 year old Kalu reportedly slept off after arriving France late in the night from Nigeria and that was the primary reason why he missed training the day he was supposed to resume.
Rohr reached out to the coach of Bordeaux, a team he coached in the past and still have good contact with the club and his intervention played a role in the decision of the club not to fine him or demote him to the reserves.
