Former vice captain of the Super Eagles Ogenyi Onazi hinted at a rift with the technical crew of the Super Eagles following his exclusion from the squad of the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their recent international engagements.
Nigeria drew 1-1 with South Africa to seal their spot in next year Africa Cup of Nations before drawing 0-0 against Uganda in an international friendly played in Asaba.
Onazi was omitted from the squad of players called up by coach Gernot Rohr for both games and the Trabzonspor midfielder responded with an interview where he claimed same forces that worked against him at the World Cup 2018 in Russia, where he didn’t get to play a game for Nigeria are responsible for his omission.
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr however insisted that he was left out because of the injury he picked prior to their game against Libya, something the coach still repeated during his parley with some sports editors in Lagos.
Rohr also dispelled talks of the end of Onazi’s international career with Nigeria by stating clearly that the midfielder is still in his immediate and future plans once he is fit.
“Ogenyi Onazi had an inflammation & could only play with an injection which the medical staff told us was risky. We saw him play for his club Trabzonspor days later which we couldn’t do anything about it. Onazi is still part of Super Eagles”, Rohr said.
