Villarreal teen sensation Samuel Chukwueze has taken the Spanish League by storm this season but the 19 year old is not resting on his achievement yet despite progressing to the first team faster than he thought when he joined them a little over a year ago.
Chukwueze scored for the second consecutive game yesterday when he found the back of the net in a 2-1 win over Real Betis and in the process took his goal tally to three for the season in all competitions. His other goal came in the Copa Del Rey 3-3 draw against Almeria.
Speaking on his rise from the U18s to the reserves and them the first team within a period of one year, the 19 year old who has already made his senior national team debut for Nigeria confessed his shock over the way he has progressed at the club.
“It has been an impressive month for me,” Chukwueze is cited as telling reporters by Plaza Deportiva.
“I did not expect to play so soon with the first team but I do not feel pressure or particularly significance, I am only thinking about working hard and continuing to improve.
“It is important to make sure the Coach retains his trust and confidence in me but it is exciting to be playing and doing things that are right”.
Ahead of next week game against Barcelona , he said he believe they can carry on with the momentum from their game against Real Betis and shock the reigning La Liga champions.
“Barcelona next week? It is a game that we can win and that is what we are focused on now.”
