Exclusive – Man City Stop Teen Wonder Dele-Bashiru From Representing Nigeria U20 At WAFU Championship

Manchester City midfield prospect Ayotomiwa Dele-Bashiru popularly called Tom Dele-Bashiru has snubbed the chance to continue his international career by pledging his allegiance to Nigeria.

Dele-Bashiru represented England at U16 level in 2014 but he has now decided to pledge his international future to Nigeria, the country where his father hailed from, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

He was invited to be a part of the Nigeria U20 team for the WAFU Championship in Benin Republic but Man City via a mail to the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) stopped him from honouring the invitation due to club commitments.

The six feet tall midfielder made his professional debut for Manchester City in 2017 in their EFL Cup game against Leicester City when he replaced Phil Foden shortly before the game dragged into extra time.

This season the 19 year old has made nine appearances for the U23s of the club in the Premier League 2 Division 1 and so far he has one assist to his name. He has also represented the U23s in the EFL Trophy as well as the UEFA Youth League.

His younger brother 17 year old Fisayo Dele-Bashiru who is also a midfielder plays for the ‎U18s of same club and he has played in eight games in the U18 Premier League.
