The Nigeria senior national team duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were on from the start for Leicester City as they dump Southampton 6-5 on penalties to secure progress to the next round of the Carabao Cup.
Iheanacho was handed a start upfront alongside Jamie Vardy in attack but the Nigerian fail to justify the trust that made coach Claude Puel to start him with a not too impressive showing which led to his substitution.
Wilfred Ndidi was however on for the entire duration of the game but wasn’t involved in the shoot outs won by the Foxes after Manolo Gabbiadini missed his effort in sudden death and Nampaly Mendy took advantage to net and earned his side the win.
The win secured a quarter final spot for Leicester City where they will take on the champions of the Carabao Cup Manchester City next month in a date yet to be confirmed.
Iheanacho will no doubt eye a spot in the tie against his former side although he could end up missing out on the tie unless his form improves in the coming months leading to the game. Ndidi is however expected to keep his spot in the team.
