Leon Balogun Open Goal Scoring Account For Brighton With Spectacular Strike Against Crystal Palace

Nigeria international defender Leon Balogun scored one of the goals in Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 win over local rivals Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.

Balogun who has found games hard to come by since his move on a free transfer from Mainz 05 scored with his first touch, a minute after he was introduced for Pascal Gross in a tactical swoop following the red card to Shane Duffy for an off the ball incident.

He caught a corner kick with a sweet volley in the box which left the goalkeeper of Crystal Palace stranded as it nestled into the net to give Brighton a 2-0 lead which was increased by Florin Andone‎ before the half time break.

The goal was Balogun’s first goal in over two years with his last goal coming for Mainz 05 in a 2-3 loss to FC Cologne on the 17th of April 2016. Overall he has scored 11 career goals from his role as a central defender.

Set for an extended stay in the first team with Duffy out via suspension for the next three games, the only blot on his display in the game against Crystal Palace was his poorly timed tackle on Wilfred Zaha which cost his team a penalty, emphatically buried by Luka Milivojevic to bring scores to 3-1.
