Nigeria will push for glory at next year Africa Cup of Nations using four different formations to prosecute games, coach of the team Gernot Rohr has revealed.
Rohr used two formations during the qualifiers, starting with his favourite 4-2-3-1 before switching to 3-5-2 for the final qualifiers against South Africa in Johannesburg which sealed Nigeria’s spot at the tournament, thanks to a 1-1 draw.
The coach is very comfortable playing both styles but he has revealed that the team will switch styles when the AFCON get underway next year pending on the strengths and weaknesses of the teams they will face at the tournament.
The plan according to the Franco-German coach is to get the players to get use to the various systems starting from the dead rubber AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against Seychelles in March next year.
“We can use several tactical options. It is depending of the circumstances that will determine which one we will use. It could be 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2. What is important is to employ a tactical option that can help us win the game. We have the players that can deliver the goods”, Rohr was quoted as saying by the electronic version of Sportinglife.ng.
