Elche goalkeeper Francis Uzoho won’t be representing Nigeria at the U23 level according to the vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) Shehu Dikko.
Uzoho recently turned 20, which means he is eligible to represent Nigeria at U23 level where Nigeria are expected to take part at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo if they qualify for the football event.
The Nigerian team will resume training shortly ahead of the start of qualifiers next month but one name that won’t be in the mix is Uzoho as he will be allowed to focus on the Super Eagles and also establish himself at club level.
“It’s a distraction that he doesn’t need. He is already first choice of the Super Eagles and has already played at the World Cup. Let him focus on his club career and establish himself. The coaches of the U23s will need to discover a good goalkeeper at that level”, NFF vice-president Dikko told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
On loan from Deportivo La Coruna to fellow second division side Elche, Uzoho has played five times this season and he recently returned to training after pulling up injured three weeks ago.
