The conversation that took place between coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr and the Nigerian duo at Latvian side Ventspils has been revealed by one of the players in Abdullahi Alfa.
The trio of Alfa, Adeleke Adeyemi and Tosin Oyegun were watched by Rohr in a Europa League qualifiers tie which their team lost 1-3 with Adeyemi now of Norwegian side Start scoring the lone goal for his side.
Rohr had a chat with the trio after the game, fuelling speculations of a possible call for the trio to the senior national team of Nigeria, who were then gearing up to play against Seychelles in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers.
They were however not called up for the game which Nigeria won 2-0 and even in the subsequent games, Rohr didn’t deem it fit to include any among the trio as the Super Eagles successfully sealed their spot at the Africa soccer showpiece.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com in Kaduna, Alfa said the Franco-German coach of the team told them that he will consider them in his squad for the Seychelles game but they didn’t get the call up.
” He is a very nice man to be honest. I pray he succeeds with the Super Eagles. After the game against Bordeaux he told us to keep working hard and he will consider us for the Seychelles game. The call didn’t come but the joy of speaking with a senior national team coach will forever remain in my head “, Alfa told Owngoalnigeria.com.
