English Premier League side Watford denied teen ace Ryan Bennets the chance to make the squad of the U20 team of Nigeria for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations according to coach of the team Paul Aigbogun.
In an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com, the coach said the 18 year old did his chances of making the squad for the tournament a whole lot of good before Watford requested for him to return.
According to Aigbogun, Bennets was already settling into the squad when the message from Watford came and he couldn’t help but let the player leave , as the tournament is not in the list of tournament listed by FIFA as mandatory for clubs to release their players.
” He struggled to cope with the weather and physical conditions when he first came but he adjusted nicely and in the test games we played he had a very huge impact when he was introduced “, Aigbogun said.
” However his club demanded for him to return for a particular Cup game in the FA Youth Cup, we couldn’t stop them from having their player back because the tournament is not among the tournament that clubs must release their players as mandated by FIFA.
” Hopefully we will watch him at close quarters before the World Youth Championship, he is still in our plans. He deserve it”, he concluded.
