The Nigeria U20 team fail to follow up their opening day win at the ongoing Africa U20 Cup of Nations as they were held to a 0-0 draw by their counterparts from South Africa.
A win would have sealed Nigeria’s spot at the World Youth Championship in Poland but they were up against a South African side who defended with all they have to claim a draw.
Nigeria had chances to finish the game off as a contest but poor decision making in the final third cost them big with South Africa defending very deep in their box to keep Nigeria at bay.
Jamil Muhammed and Nazifi Yahaya came close to snatching a late winner for the dominant Nigerians who will now be up against host Niger Republic in their final group game needing a draw to progress from the group and also qualify for the World Youth Championship.
Despite the draw the Nigerian team moved to top of the group with four points while South Africa are now second with two points with Niger Republic and Burundi set to play each other in the other group game.
